A living metadata collage

Seven Degreesof Commons

Begin with a Wikipedia article. Follow seven documented relationships through Wikidata—or keep tracing to nine or eleven. Let Wikimedia Commons supply the pictures, and let every seam remain visible.

No image is chosen merely at random. Each one must inherit a relationship from the image before it.

An archive is also a set of maintained relationships.

A file can survive while the knowledge around it thins out. This experiment treats descriptions, attribution, classification, and connection as part of what preservation has to keep alive.

Missing paths are evidence too. They show where technical availability has outrun cultural legibility—and where another person may still need to describe, correct, or reconnect the record.
